De titels, die wereldwijd van Disney's streamingdiensten worden verwijderd, omvatten Disney+'s Willow, Big Shot (2021), Turner & Hooch, The Mighty Ducks (2021): Game Changers, Just Beyond, Diary of a Future President, The Mysterious Benedict Society en The World According to Jeff Goldblum en Hulu's Y: The Last Man, Dollface, The Hot Zone, Maggie, Pistol en Little Demon.
De lijst bevat grotendeels kortstondige series, specials en direct-to-streaming films.
De stap, die gepaard gaat met een waardevermindering van 1,5 miljard tot 1,8 miljard dollar, werd aangekondigd tijdens een recent winstgesprek van Disney op 10 mei.
"We zijn bezig met een herziening van de inhoud van onze DTC-diensten om deze af te stemmen op de strategische veranderingen in onze benadering van content cureren," zei CFO Christine McCarthy. Op dat moment werden geen details verstrekt over de inhoud die zou worden verwijderd.
Disney is het laatste mediabedrijf dat inhoud van zijn streamingplatforms schrapt als kostenbesparende maatregel nu de industrie de kosten en de strategie in die arena heroverweegt met een hernieuwde focus op winstgevendheid. Warner Bros. Discovery verwijderde een groot aantal series van HBO Max en AMC en Showtime ondergingen een soortgelijke teruggang.
